Can women preach?
‘It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.
Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had said these things to her.

Yes—women can share the Gospel. God has worked through women since the earliest biblical stories. Deborah was a prophet and judge; Priscilla helped explain God’s way; Mary Magdalene proclaimed that Jesus had risen; and the Samaritan woman led neighbors to hear Him. Esther risked her life to save her people. To silence a woman simply for faithfully sharing Jesus’ message can be oppressive. Christians differ about some ordained church roles, but Scripture unmistakably records women speaking, teaching, leading, and bearing witness within biblical standards.
Women God used throughout Scripture
- Sarah — God’s promise concerning Isaac was fulfilled through her (Genesis 18:10–14; 21:1–3).
- Hagar — God heard and cared for her and Ishmael in distress; she called Him the God who sees (Genesis 16:7–13; 21:17–19).
- Ruth — A Moabite who trusted the God of Israel, cared for Naomi, and became David’s great-grandmother (Ruth 1:16; 4:17–22).
- Deborah — Served as a prophet and judge of Israel and guided the people (Judges 4:4–9).
- Esther — Risked approaching the king to protect her people. Mordecai was her cousin and guardian, not her uncle (Esther 2:7; 4:14–16; 7:3–6).
- Mary, the mother of Jesus — Gabriel’s greeting troubled her (Luke 1:29). Imagine the wonder and responsibility of learning she would carry the Messiah. Mary trusted God’s call and lifted her voice in praise (Luke 1:38, 46–55).
- Martha — Openly confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God (John 11:27).
- Mary Magdalene — Told the disciples she had seen the risen Lord (John 20:18).
- The Samaritan woman — She is the woman at the well; she told people in her town about Jesus (John 4:28–30, 39).
- Priscilla — Alongside Aquila, explained God’s way more accurately to Apollos (Acts 18:26).
